Partnerships
There are numerous opportunities for CBIK to collaborate with local institutions and international organizations in the field of indigenous knowledge, livelihood development and biodiversity conservation.
Local partnerships
Local partners are defined as those local institutions that directly participate in research and development issues with indigenous peoples, indigenous knowledge and natural resource management.

Main activities jointly with local partners are essential for CBIK to scale up our efforts and approaches :
* Joint research, training and capacity-building activities through small grant program
* Identification of appropriate individuals to participate in CBIK-organized activities such as programs and training activities
* Information exchange and sharing with other concerned institutions and individuals
* Mobilizing other organizations and individuals to promote inter-cultural dialogue, participatory action research in sustainable livelihood, eco-tourism, and biodiversity conservation.
* Supporting local initiatives for interdisciplinary research in land-use, land tenure and intellectual property rights.
* Registration for indigenous innovations and technology directly for indigenous experts.
* Institutionalizing grass-root NGOs and organization at community or local prefecture level.
Regional and International Partnerships
Regional partners are defined as those local institutions that have common interests in research, information exchange and experience sharing in biodiversity conservation, community development and indigenous people in the mountain regions of Southeast Asian Countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. The international partners will be established with various international organizations outside SW China for the purpose of tapping into their knowledge, expertise and financial supports in local conservation and development, such as IUCN, WWF, ICIMOD, East West Center, Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, World Resource Institute and ICRAF.
The activities will focus on the following:
* Joint regional project and regional comparative research;
* Information exchange
* Cross-boundary visits of research professionals, resource managers and indigenous people
* Translation and transfer of knowledge and experience into local socio-cultural context
